How can I be confident about the quality control of the products for sale?

Before launching Second Skin, I spent a significant amount of time researching and stress-testing this exact question. Without trust from our customers, Second Skin simply wouldn’t exist.
That research led to one clear conclusion: the only way circular beauty could work safely and responsibly was through a consignment model supported by robust, non-negotiable product criteria.
Second Skin acts as the middle layer between our Sellers and our customers. Every product on our site must meet one single standard — ours.
Sellers submit their products to us and are required to declare all opened items, including the date they were opened. Each product is then assessed in person by our team, using both the seller’s disclosure and our own inspection to determine whether it meets our resale criteria.
If accepted, we create the listing from start to finish — including photographing the exact item you see online — and store it with us for the full duration of its listing. What you see is exactly what you get.
Are products like used mascara or used lipstick sold on Second Skin?
Absolutely not!
There are certain products that we don't accept for resale and these are outlined in our beauty product criteria.
Products we don't accept if they have been used, even just once:
- Products that require direct application (e.g. mascara, lip gloss, concealer, nail polish)
- Products in open-jar packaging (e.g. moisturisers, cleansing balms)
- Cream or powder-based makeup (e.g. cream blush, lipstick, eyeshadow palettes)
- Accessories or tools (e.g. brushes, cosmetic bags, scrunchies)
- Mini-sized products
